Breakthrough’s application for fall tutor, teacher, and mentor positions is available now! We’re looking for adults, college students, high school students, and 8th grade students from Breakthrough or SF Day to volunteer with us this fall, supporting our academically motivated students with limited educational opportunities.
There are four ways to help out. Tutors support our fifth – eighth graders in our after-school program, helping them with homework completion and working on study skills. Teachers lead a self-designed academic/elective class during the second hour of after-school. 1:1 virtual high school tutors work with one of our high school students over Zoom according to their own schedule, providing support with specific subjects in which they need support. Lastly, mentors volunteer once a month on Saturdays, helping our ninth graders with their transition to high school.
More information is available here. Applications are due by Sept 8, 2023 (Breakthrough and SF Day 8th graders) and Sept 15, 2023 (all other applicants), and will be reviewed on a rolling basis – we may close the application prior to Sept 15 if we reach capacity.
