Breakthrough Staffing Update

Saturday, May 26, 2018

We are sad to share the news that Jenee Palmer, our long-time Senior Program Director, recently transitioned out of her role after nearly nine years in our office. During that time, she built strong relationships with our students and families, led the roll-out of our programming for seventh - twelfth graders and completely transformed our organization, including sending 100% of our inaugural senior class to college. Hundreds of Breakthrough community members turned out for her goodbye party on May 19 - click here to view photos! We want to thank Jenee for the incredible amount she’s done for Breakthrough over the years and congratulate her on her new role as Director of the High Potential Program at Saint Mary’s College of California.

We are sad to say goodbye to two other key staff members as well - Trisha Regine Fuerte, our Program Associate, wrapped up at Breakthrough in April, and Josh Shald, our Director of Curriculum and Instruction, will transition out of his role in June. Trisha began with Breakthrough as a Program Assistant and Teaching Fellow before transitioning into a full-time staff role in 2016, working to recruit and select our newest classes of Breakthrough students and assisting with the operations of our after-school program and summer Volunteer Leadership Program. Josh also joined our full-time staff in 2016, overseeing recruitment, selection, training, and support for our Teaching Fellows and Instructional Coaches, and leading curriculum and assessment as well as middle school guidance efforts. We will truly miss both of them.

On a happier note, we are excited to welcome three new team members. Ana Payes started last month as Director of Middle School Programs and will serve as the main point person for our 5-8th grade students and families as of this summer; she's a San Francisco native and committed educator who spent the last decade working at KIPP Bay Area Schools. Michael Duryee-Browner, a former Breakthrough tutor, teacher, and Instructional Coach and current SF Day School faculty member, is moving into the Director of Curriculum and Instruction role in June. And Enyolli Martinez, a former Breakthrough student who currently serves as our Program Assistant and Spanish Interpreter/Translator, will join us for the summer as our Volunteer Leadership Program Coordinator. We welcome these three new staff members and are excited to see their contributions this summer and in the years ahead.
