As a child in Virginia, Dashell spent summers in the library with his mom while his friends were going swimming. “Every week we chose twenty books and read them before we could do anything else. My mom was tough, but she gave me a great respect for learning. She left Ghana when she was 20 so she could give her children an excellent education.”

This summer was unforgettable. Breakthrough pushed me to be the best that I can. It tested my patience, perseverance, creativity, and leadership capabilities, and made me feel like an important, positive, and inspirational role model for my peers and for these brilliant students.
