Breakthrough San Francisco extends its deep appreciation to the Warriors Community Foundation, which recently made a $25,000 investment in our program. “As important as the play on the court is, so is the impact we make in the community we live and play in,” said Warriors Owner and CEO Joe Lacob.

Joseph started at Breakthrough the summer after fourth grade, excited to get additional academic support. “In the beginning I was really stressed out,” he remembers. “I was working hard while my peers from school were hanging out and going on vacation. I had to reflect and realize that I was here for a reason, because I want to learn and get an education. Having other students around me who had the same drive to learn was really awesome.”

When Mele was a fourth grader, her mom became an elementary school teacher. Mele remembers getting to school early, when the halls were still empty, to lend a hand. But her own career path became clear only later, as a high school senior, when President Obama put out a call in his State of the Union address for young people to enter the education field. Mele remembers excitedly discussing the speech with her mom.

Several dozen AppDynamics employees generously donated their time recently, preparing Back to School supply packages and personal notes for the 133 fifth - eighth graders who will be returning to Breakthrough for our after-school program starting October 10. Founded in 2008, AppDynamics provides real-time mobile app performance monitoring for over 1,500 companies globally.

Volunteer in our after-school program this fall, supporting the success of our motivated 5th-8th graders. We’re looking for adults, college students, high school students, and SFDS eighth graders. The commitment is one afternoon per week from early October through early December.
